  TB

Mycobacteriology Lab is designed as a bench entry tool for laboratories performing isolation and identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and atypical Mycobacteria.

  • Classical tube and bactec results can be entered directly into the program, allowing the lab to run as a 100% paperless system. A full paper trail is also available for any section of the laboratory.
  • The program tracks Quality Control data for each specimen and test, records Modified-Kinyon/Ziehl-Nieelson or Fluorchrome slide result, culture result, primary and secondary biochemicals. Drug testing for Disc and Bactec systems and up to fifty drugs may be tested on any one organism.
  • The program can prints 8x11 inch formats with the mailing address ready to drop into a windowed envelope. This is especially important in the laboratory since some TB specimen containers leak and contaminate the lab slip sent with the sample.
  • Standard comments, paragraphs or free-text comments may be added to any result to be sent out or for in-house use.
  • TBLog and TB Scratch Pad are separate modules used to track specimen sent out to other labs and to track specimens sorted by Client name, lab number, Reference lab, smear requests, sub culture requests or drug testing requests.

TB Feature List

100% paperless or with full paper trails

Disc, LAN or WAN distributed data base

  • A new module which allows you to send data directly to clinics and physicians is now available
  • This module allows the users to lookup their clients in a lab slip format and print out local lab slips.

Transfer of data may be by floppy discs, network file transfers or Internet e-mail.

The program consists of a search module at the laboratory which allows you to pull related clients from single or multiple clinics into a single file which can be transferred to the clinic/physician.

The clinic uses the TB Remote Database program which reads the raw data and sorts it into a lab slip format for use by their staff.

The user the first letter of the last name and then clicks on a drop down box showing the client name, date of birth and laboratory number for the specimen.

The specimen results (including drug tests and comments) is displayed. This information may be printed out in a standard 8x11 inch lab slip using any Windows compatible printer.

A full fledged lookup module will be added as the first update to allow users to see all related information on a single client over a span of multiple lab slips. This is important for tracking drug susceptibility patterns for clients.

This module used ASCII text to transfer data and is useable by most any LIS capable of generating an ASCII list. Please contact BtB Software if you want to use this program in your TB laboratory.

TB Log

  • Track specimens sent to other labs for drug susceptibility or confirmation.

TB Scratch Pad

  • Record and print daily work lists sorted by smear, probe, drug, client name or lab number. Distribute these lists to lab assistants for clear, printed work instructions

Bactec Lists

  • Print out lists to set up bactec reader to lab assistants. Rapidly enter index back into system with a few keystrokes.

Bactec

  • Record bactec results for 10 readings, index number, initials of person responsible and comment are available for each reading

MbBact (OTC)

  • Record MbBact results in a drop down list. Search for MbBact results and export to spreadsheets inthe Search program.

Cultures

  • Record culture status, initials of person responsible for reading, and a comment for each reading. With this information and the bactec reading, you can give results to clients over the phone without running back to the lab to look at tubes and worksheets.

Drugs

  • Record up to 50 drugs, run in-house or sent out, bactec or plate (disc) method)
  • Drug name, mcg/ml, result, reading, who tested, lot number, comment, outside lab name, date done

Lab Slips

  • Print lab slips in 8x11
5 canned comments, free text and cann paragraph comments may be printed on the same slip.

Search

  • Multiple search keys with built in statistics

Billing

  • Billing lists by clinic. Medicare/Medical/Insurance billing via 3rd party add-in (contact BtB Software for details)

Editing

  • All data entry points may be edited

Speed keys

  • Make all negative for smears, cultures by week, final results, speed entry of bactec index using Bactec list program

Client Lookup

  • Linked results, last-in, first-out
  • Last 100 program may be distributed to clinics for up to the minute results on specimens

Client Entry

  • Link tests from other sections of the laboratory for a comprehensive client history.

Nucleic Acid Amplification

  • Record NAA tests run at your lab or sent to an outside laboratory. Results include Positive, Negative, Inconclusive, No Test, Lab Accident, Pending. The date reported and testing lab name are also recorded.

Mixed cultures

  • You may now have 20 organisms or slides per specimen for those tricky mixed cultures.

Relative amounts

  • The relative number of organisms seen on LJ or 7H10 may now be recorded for those labs needing that feature.

Specimen Comments

  • A section to record specimen comments has been added. Previously labs have been using the culture comment section to record information on specimens.

The comment sections allow for free text or canned phrases (entered in the TB Setup program). The canned phrases can now be sorted for each of the comment sections (specimen, culture, result, other or all). This reduces the options the user sees if you have developed a lot of different canned phrases for result reporting.

Final Date

  • There is now a FINAL DATE, as opposed to a culture date. This was added at the request of labs so they could differentiate between culture date and drug report date.
